August 14, 2017 - Northern Lights Library Executive Meeting and Policy Meeting held in Elk Points:
Approved the proposed budget for 2018.
Will be changing Auditors for 2018.
Plan of Service Manual passed by board
August 15, 2017 - Minister of Children’s Service: Danielle Larivee Meeting held in Athabasca:
The purpose of the meeting was for the Minister to gain insight on Rural Children Services.
August 17, 2017 - Regular Council Meeting and Public Hearing held in County Council Chambers:
Bylaw No. 1304-17: Village of Waskatenau & Smoky Lake County Intermunicipal Development Plan was passed with Third and Final Reading.
The County is advertising land for sale: Plan 3474MC in the Hamlet of Warspite with a reserve bid of $36,500.
Bylaw No. 1305-17: Victoria District Area Structure Plan was passed with Third and Final Reading.
Policy Statement No. 01-48-01: Administration Fees for Information was adopted.
The 2017-2019 Financial Plan was adopted.
Bylaw No. 1306-17: Licensing of Aggregate Extraction Business Operating within County was given First Reading.
A Three-Year 2018-2022 Bridge Priority List was established for applying for bridge funding.
Council agreed to write a letter of support for the future development and reinvestment into the Alberta Tree Improvement and Seed Centre in the County.
August 21, 2017 - Regional Community Development Committee Meeting held in County Council Chambers:
I was unable to attend this meeting. The Committee is seeking clarification regarding the completion date for paving Highway 855 North of Smoky Lake, as well as seeking more information on the status and of Highway 28.
August 21, 2017 - Muni-Corr Meeting and Annual Barbeque held in Bonnyville:
Discussed the proposed water pipeline from Cold Lake to Bonnyville running through the Muni-Corr Corridor\Iron Horse Trail.
August 23, 2017 - In-House Safety Meeting held in County Council Chambers:
The importance of knowing your address/location was emphasized for emergency purposes.
911 will Not know your location if your calling from a cell phone.
August 24, 2017 - Agricultural Service Board (ASB) Meeting held in County Council Chambers:
The County has purchased a wobbly packer grader attachment used to tighten up the roads and reduce the need for a second grader pass.
The “No Spray” Policy has been rescinded, due to concerns with compliance, enforcement capacity, and the requirement for County to maintain Right-of-ways.
The ASB department will be inviting a representative from AgSafe Alberta to provide a community workshop
August 24, 2017 - Fire Protective Meeting held in County Council Chambers:
Russell Fehr has resigned as the Vilna Fire Chief due to him and his family relocating to Fort McMurray, and Ray Soch was elected as the new Vilna FireChief.
August 24, 2017 - Natural Gas Meeting held in County Council Chambers:
Administration is continuing progress on a Natural Gas System Operating Agreement between the Town of Smoky Lake and Smoky Lake County.
August 24, 2017- Environmental Operations Meeting held in County Council Chambers:
Council approved to supply Pepper’s Highway Services near Waskatenau with two (2) additional Waste Bins at no cost, in addition to the eight (8) existing Waste Bins, for a total of 10 Waste Bins, because of the bins being utilized for household garbage.
August 24, 2017 - CAO Evaluation Meeting held in County Council Chambers:
The CAO Evaluation has begun and the next discussions on this will be held on September 25, 2017 at 1:00 p.m.
August 25, 2017 - Highway 28/63 Regional Water Services Commission Meeting held in County Council Chambers:
The Commission and Associated Engineering Alberta Ltd. are making great progress along with representatives from provincial, federal and Whitefish Lake First Nation #128 representatives in the waterline extension and connection to the reserve.
August 25, 2017 - Special Council Meeting held in County Council Chambers:
Council accept the bid in the amount of $11,000.00, plus GST, for the purchase of Plan 314HW, Block 4, East Half of Lot Twelve (12) and all of lot Thirteen (13), in the Hamlet of Warspite, as per County Policy No. 61-10-01.
September 7, 2017 - Regional Community Development Committee Meeting(by the call of the Chair) held in County Council Chambers:
The meeting was called by the Chair due to a time sensitive issue with regard to the Primary Care Network possibly setting up shop in the Town of Smoky Lake.
September 8, 2017 - Regional Fire and RescueCommittee Meeting held in County Council Chambers:
A Firefighter Recruitment Policy is being forwarded to each respective council for adoption.
